Press: inSE1

Have you picked up your copy of the March issue of inSE1? If so, then you would have spotted the article about our upcoming project in collaboration with Southwark Council and the Blackfriars Arts Project.

inSE1 press Blackfriars Stories

We are collecting stories about life in Southwark and in London: anything from an anecdote about a night at your local, a day of tourism, a regular commute. What is your favourite spot for a date? Or for a quiet drink off the beaten track? We need you to share your experiences with us, and you don’t need to be a writer to get involved.

Get in touch with your stories, recommendations and thoughts on the Blackfriars Mile and surrounding areas.

You can email us at info@afriendofafriendtheatre.com or get in touch via social media on Facebook or Twitter.

What’s your Story?

We are delighted to announce that A Friend of a Friend Productions has been commissioned by Southwark Council to bring new theatre writing to Blackfriars. We will be presenting short plays recounting stories from local residents, those who work in the area and anyone who has being personally affected by an encounter within the neighbourhood rife with history and diversity: Blackfriars in Southwark. Removed from a traditional theatre setting, the plays will be thrust into a realistic context, bringing the focus directly on the relationships that we form, the jobs that we hold and the lives that we lead.

We seek local writers to present short plays relating to the Southwark area, and will also be teaming professional playwrights up with residents to bring their stories to the ‘stage’.

In October these plays will be presented in a site specific, promenade production on the Blackfriar’s Mile.

Are you a Southwark resident with an interesting story or a flair for the written word? get in touch, keeping the following guidelines in mind:

Southwark Residents and workers We are looking for stories which take place in the area. Are you a builder working on the redevelopment at Elephant and Castle? Or, do you spend your time in the local at Camberwell? We need your anecdotes about your experiences in the area. We will be selecting stories to be developed into plays. This means that you will speak to one of our expert commissioned playwrights who will then turn our four selected stories into short plays. All submissions will also be logged in our #whatsyourstory archive.
